19-Year-Old Waterloo Man Drowns in Canal

A 19-year-old Waterloo man has drowned tonight in the Cayuga-Seneca Canal near Hyatt Road in Seneca Falls. The teen and his friends were jumping off the railroad bridge that spans the waterway.   According to the teen’s friends, he had jumped from the bridge and swam to the shoreline before slipping back in and disappearing under the water. His friends called 911 from a cell phone and searched in vain for man while waiting for authorities to arrive.   Seneca County Sheriffs, Seneca Falls Police, Union Springs and Border City Dive Teams and the Cayuga Fire and Dive Team responded to the scene around 7:45 pm Saturday evening.   An investigation is now underway by the State Police.
