Red Sox Win 2006 Schuyler Co. Little League

The Red Sox team overcame a very pesky and determined Phillies team and won the playoff Championship for the Major League division of the Schuyler County Little League Tuesday night at Fazzary Field.The regular season saw the Athletics, lead by manager Dave Rundle, finish on top of the league compiling a 9-3 record. The Red Sox team, with manager Henry Smith, finished second with an 8-4 record. Last year’s playoff champions the Pirates, with manager Ernie Brennan finished third with a record of 7-5. The Orioles, with manager Scott McCray and the Phillies with manager Ben Bond finished fourth and fifth, both teams finished with 3-9 regular season records. Phillies 3-9The playoffs started with the 4/5 seeded playoff game as the Phillies defeated the Orioles by the score of 7-4. Game 2 had the Red Sox playing the Pirates with the winner advancing to the championship series. The Red Sox team advanced to the championship series with a win over the Pirates also by the score of 7-4. By winning the first playoff game the Phillies next had to meet the top seeded Athletics. The Phillies maintained their playoff momentum and defeated the top seeded Athletics in a back-and-forth baseball game by the score of 13-10.The Championship series games (best 2-3) were very close throughout with strong starting pitching, timely hitting, and key defensive plays the difference as the Red Sox swept the Phillies in two straight games by the scores of 4-3 and 4-1.In game one Chris Perraut pitched a complete game for the Red Sox while Bryan Joseph and Ethan Devivi split time on the mound for the Phillies. The Phillies had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning but the Red Sox team scored 2 to take a 3-2 lead into the final inning. The Phillies rallied to tie the score 3-3 in the top of the sixth but the Red Sox team came back again and scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the win 4-3.Game 2 saw Red Sox pitcher Brad Gallow throw a complete game 1-hitter against the Phillies. Luke Flahive and Ethan Devivi split pitching duties for the Phillies. The Red Sox team scored 1 run early and then 3 runs in the top of the fourth to take an early 4-0 lead. The Phillies scored 1 run in the bottom of the fourth but the Red Sox team hung on and came away with a 4-1 victory.Congratulations Red Sox’s, the 2006 SCLL Major Division Champions.
