Ithaca College Theatre Season Set To Begin

Ithaca College Theatre will kick off its 2006-2007 season with Marlane Gomard Meyer’s “Etta Jenks”. Performances will take place from October 3-8. First produced in 1988, “Etta Jenks” garnered playwright Marlane Gomard Meyer the Joseph Kesselring Award, given annually to playwrights of exceptional promise. She was also a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, awarded annually to a woman playwright who has written a work of outstanding quality. Set in 1988, the production follows Etta as she struggles to find her place in the adult film industry. It examines the dilemmas posed when sex becomes an industry and the struggles women face when trying to preserve their integrity while finding a place in the workforce. This striking, intriguing, and often gritty play explores love, betrayal and the dehumanization of women as sex objects. Tickets can be purchased by calling the theatre box office at (607) 274 3224, the Clinton house at 273 4497, or by visiting ithacaevents.com. Etta Jenks is recommended for mature audiences.
