Monson Murder: DA Challenged By Internet Letter

A Cayuga County man is challenging Cayuga County District Attorney James Vargason to move forward with a 25-year old unsolved murder case. Robert Schillagi has posted a letter to Vargason on the internet in which he claims Vargason has named the wrong person as the prime suspect in the death of Julie Monson in 1981. Vargason recently was quoted in the Auburn Citizen as saying John Grossman was the prime suspect in the murder case. Grossman is currently in prison. Schillagi-who has researched the Monson case for years- says Grossman is a red herring.Julie was an 18-year old Cayuga Community College student when she was reported missing by her parents. Her remains were found in Seneca County at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge in April 1983. Schillagi- in the letter-doesn’t say who he thinks killed Monson.
