Village Christmas set for 12/5 in Watkins Glen

Village Christmas presented by Watkins Glen Promotions and the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce will be an evening full of activities, food and crafts. Coming up right around the corner, the event will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 on Franklin Street in Watkins Glen, and will begin at 5:00 p.m.There will be live entertainment throughout the evening at various locations on Franklin Street. Included in the mix will be musical groups from the Watkins Glen Schools, a local dance group, The Lake Country Players’ new Christmas story and a barbershop quartet as well.One of the highlights of the evening will be the Christmas Parade, sponsored by Wireless Worldwide Inc. Commencing at 6:30 p.m. from Specchio Ford and following Franklin Street north to 1st Street, the parade will be where Santa and Mrs. Claus will make their entrance to the street festival. The parade will also be judged by a panel who will give awards for “Judges’ Choice”, “Most Christmas Spirit”, “Most Decorated” and “Best Decorated Fire Truck.”There will also be the 4th Annual Chowder Cook-Off, sponsored by Famous Brands. Entries will be set up on Franklin Street and festival-goers may pick up passports to participate in the chowder tasting. Passports are $3.00 per person and may be purchased that evening at the booth near the Watkins Glen Village Hall.To end the evening there will be a fireworks display, sponsored by Wal-Mart, at the conclusion of the festival.
