Conservation Alliance Sportsmen’s Show in Auburn

The Conservation Alliance of New York is holding a day-long free admission sportsmen’s show as part of its Annual Meeting, on Saturday, March 14 starting at 10 am at Bass Pro Sports, 1579 Clark Street Road, in Auburn, NY. Some of the organizations with information tables at the event include the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, the New York State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the New York State Trappers Association, the Lake Ontario Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited, the Ruffed Grouse Society, the New York Chapter of the Quality Deer Management Association, the CANY Venison Donation Program, and the Northern Tier Committee of the Friends of the NRA, an organization that raises funds to support shooting sports programs, including school rifle teams, youth shooting sports clubs and hunting and shooting clubs to name a few. Throughout the day, Don Miller of Lakeside Taxidermy, Fulton, NY, will assemble a deer mount and discuss the process as he assembles the mount. Kids and adults will enjoy the opportunity to test their skill at the 4-H computerized laser shooting game. Bass Pro Shops’ staff will feed the fish in the shops’ 22,000-gallon tank at 12 noon. Greg Costa, a Northern-Eastern US consultant for both the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the NRA, as well as the NYS Association of Firearms Retailers, will be available to answer questions. Conservation Alliance of New York and New York State Rifle and Pistol Association members will be answering questions about their joint effort to secure an injunction that has state leaders reevaluating the decision to close the last state-run pheasant farm, the Richard E. Reynolds Game Farm in Dryden, N.Y. The two groups have invested more than $11,000 to date to save the game farm that raises birds for release into the wild for hunting as well as providing day old chicks to youth groups and sportsmen’s clubs to raise for release. “This sportsmen’s show at Bass Pro Sports is a fantastic new outreach effort by the Conservation Alliance of New York. We hope to attract people interested to learn more about outdoor sports and opportunities to join organizations that support conservation education and activities,” says show organizer and CANY Region 7 Director Rick McDermott. The CANY Sportsmens’ Show coincides with Bass Pro Shops’ Spring Fishing Classic Sale. The CANY business meeting will start at 4 pm.
