SFPD warns of check fraud scheme

Seneca Falls Police received a call in which a village resident received a check and letter from a company to act as a confidential mystery shopper at various shopping locations. The company compensates you in advance by mailing you a check and upon cashing the check, you agree to act as a mystery shopper, provided that you send them a money gram in a specified amount that you are to withdrawal from your personal accounts. These checks are insufficient for cashing and that they are part of a fraud scheme with the intent of having the mystery shopper believe they are to profit from this scheme. Police are asking area residents to be mindful of such attempts to defraud through this and similar scams. If you believe you have been a victim of such scam contact your local law enforcement agency.
