Are Phish playing Watkins Glen this summer?

Rumors are swirling that Phish’s next big outdoor summer festival will take place at the Watkins Glen International (WGI) speedway in upstate New York. The venue hosted the famous Summer Jam festival on July 28, 1973 that featured the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers and the Band, still considered the largest ever of its kind (more than 600,000 people attended).he Corning Leader reports: “Fueling the ‘Phish at The Glen’ rumors, fans have pointed to WGI’s proven capacity to handle large crowds, its proximity to Interstate Highway 86 and the recent loss of its IndyCar race on Fourth of July weekend. The floodgates to the rumor mill opened after the expiration of a Town of Dix moratorium on musical gatherings of more than 20,000 people.”WGI president Michael Printup says: “If we can get it done in cooperation with Schuyler County, we’d like to get it done.”One Phish fan site writes: “Most of the rumors have centered around July 4th weekend. Though some have speculated that the site would host a Phish festival, others have thrown out the possibility of a Furthur-Allman Brothers Band-Phish bill.”Read more at http://www.celebstoner.com
