Geneva grad drafted by CFL’s Calgary franchise

Tyrone Collins, Wide Receiver out of Wagner University in Staten Island, NY, signed today with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.During his senior year with the Wagner Seahawks, Collins was second on his team with 32 catches for 488 receiving yards, recording 4 touchdown passes. He first made his impact felt on the field in 2007 as a freshman with 11 receptions for 143 yards. Collins continued this trend in his sophomore year with 37 receptions for 398 yards, 22 kick returns for 446 yards, 16 punt returns for 118 yards and an 86-yard kickoff return during the Homecoming Day win over Iona College. His junior year was equally impressive: he was second on the team in receptions with 15 receptions for 232 yards, and he tied for second in yards per catch with an average gain of 15.5 yards, finishing the year with 462 all-purpose yards.Collins reports to the Calgary Stampeders’ training camp on June 1st. The “Stamps” endedthe regular season 13-5, suffering a heartbreaking 20-16 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Division final.Collins, a native of Geneva, NY, attended Geneva High School, playing football (Second Team All-State), basketball, and baseball. He is the nephew of former NFL running back, Tony Collins (NE Patriots, Miami Dolphins).
