Marcus Whitman defeats Red Jacket in opener

Manchester, N.Y. — Marcus Whitman was able to get first-year head coach Matt Silco his first career victory Saturday afternoon in Shortsville when the Wildcats beat Finger Lakes West foe Red Jacket, 49-24. The game was tied at 6-6 after the first quarter, and then the Indians took an 18-6 halftime lead. But Marcus Whitman responded in the second half, keeping Red Jacket scoreless in the third period and taking a 22-18 lead before the fourth period. In the fourth and final chapter, the Wildcats ran away with the win. Marcus Whitman is now 1-0 overall, and Red Jacket falls to 0-1.
