Cayuga Nature Center turns 30 on Saturday

(Ithaca, NY October 10, 2011) Please join us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Cayuga Nature Center on October 15, 2011 from 10am-10pm. (Unless you wish to start with the sunrise hike!). We’re celebrating the past 30 years and kicking off the next 30 years with everyone’s favorite Nature Center activities. The day will be filled with fun and family-friendly activities including stories from the Ithaca Area Storytellers, guided and self-guided tours of the grounds, kids’ crafts, a photo booth, animal feedings and programming, hay rides, face painting, fossil digging, and so much more! Live music from local favorites such as Technicolor Trailer Park, Cielle, and Kenny T. & Wildfire will be featured throughout the day. Lining the halls of the Great Room will be a historic photography exhibit of the Cayuga Nature Center property and our newest exhibit, Busy Bee: Life in a Honeybee Hive, will premiere in the Education Room. Cayuga Creamery will be on hand with their delicious ice cream and CNC’s cider press will be in action. Our high ropes course will be open in the afternoon for only $10 per person – there is limited availability so pre-registration is required. In conjunction with PRI and its Museum of the Earth, this event is proudly co-sponsored by Brous & Mehaffey’s Collegetown Bagels and Ithaca Bakery. Besides complimentary breakfast and healthy snacks for kids at childcare and storytime, featuring the Ithaca Area Storytellers, Ithaca Bakery will be offering lunch items for sale and will be catering a chicken barbecue dinner (with vegetarian option) starting at 5:00 pm for $15 where children 12 and under eat dinner for free. Pre-registration for the dinner is required. Camp counselors will be offering free childcare from 4-8pm, so parents can relax and have a drink in the Great Room. The evening will continue with live music, a bonfire with s’mores, and two nighttime hikes: an astronomy oriented hike led by a member of Cornell’s Department of Astronomy and a sensory night hike led by CNC staff. The Cayuga Nature Center is a beloved Tompkins County institution. For the last 30 years, the organization has inspired fond memories of weddings, family reunions, school field trips, hiking, camp, MapleFest, and Treetops.
