SF/W’loo Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

On Saturday, June 2, 2012, the Town of Seneca Falls and the Town of Waterloo will host their fifrh, annual, joint Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day at the Town of Seneca Falls Highway Department. Residents from both towns and villages are eligible to participate in this one-day event, and must register by calling: 568-0967 between May 14 – 23 from the hours of 12:00 – 5:00 pm. No walk-ins will be accepted.Acceptable materials for drop-off are: automotive batteries, car tires (limit of 15), used oil, antifreeze, pool chemicals, pesticides, insecticides, oil-based paints/stains, resins, adhesives, home cleaning products, empty BBQ propane tanks, computers, monitors, t.v.’s, compact fluorescents, fluorescent light tubes, microwaves, home air conditioners,and cell phones.The household hazardous waste is handled and transported to the appropriate treatment facilities by Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc., while the non-hazardous waste is shipped off to recycling companies. Volunteers from the Seneca Meadows Landfill, the Town Highway Department, the Town of Seneca Falls Waste Management Advisory Committee and the Town and Village of Waterloo will work the event.The companies who are donating their services to the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day are: the Seneca Meadows Landfill (recycling the waste tires and disposing of the non-hazardous waste); Luffman Metal Recyclers (recycling the automotive batteries and 20 lb propane tanks); and D.C. Rauscher (supplying the roll-off containers).The Towns expect to receive a grant from The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, reimbursing them for half of the cost of the event.
