Arrests promoting contraband at Cayuga Jail

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two persons in connection with an investigation into promoting prison contraband at the Cayuga County Jail. Charged are:Benjamin M. Gilfus age 30 of 1969 Deitrich Rd. Auburn2 counts Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st degree (felony)Keri A. Sheppard-Kline age 28- inmate at the Cayuga County Jail1 count Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st degree1 count Attempted Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st degreeThe investigation, which began as a result of Cayuga County Custody Officers witnessing suspicious activity during an inmate visit, revealed that on 11/03/12 Gilfus came in to the Cayuga County Jail to visit Sheppard-Kline and that during that visit he supplied her with Suboxone. On 11/07/12 Gilfus returned to the Cayuga County Jail to visit Sheppard-Kline again however was intercepted by Detectives prior to his coming into contact with the inmate. At that time Gilfus was found to be in possession of Suboxone which he intended to give to Sheppard-Kline again during his visit. Gilfus was arraigned in the Town of Sennett Court last evening and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Keri Sheppard Kline was arrested this morning and continues to be held at the Cayuga County Jail awaiting arraignment later today on the new charges.
