Geneva downs Newark to clinch FL East title

The Geneva Panthers rode a big night by senior PG Shane Sweeney to a 64-56 victory over the Newark Reds on Tuesday night in Geneva. The win puts the Panthers two games clear of second place Wayne and clinches the tough Finger Lakes East Championship.Coach Brian Miller’s Panthers currently stand undefeated in league play with the Eagles of Wayne left to close our their regular season on Thursday night. Geneva’s only loss of the season came against Aquinas a week and a half ago.Sweeney scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for Geneva while Panther big man Junior Sims added 13.For Newark, the loss drops them to 12-5 on their campaign and drops them behind Mynderse in the FL East standings to 4th place. Jaymee Rosser led the way for the Reds with 15 points while PG Micah Wright added 14 in the loss.Another local league title will be decided on Wednesday night at the Lyons Lions face the Clyde-Savannah Golden Eagles with the Wayne County League championship at stake.
