Williamson, Bloomfield, Gananda advance in sectionals

Sectional play began on Tuesday night for Wayne-Finger Lakes boys varsity basketball teams along with many other squads from across Section V. Williamson and Bloomfield came up big to advance while the season is over for East Rochester, Red Jacket, Sodus, Romulus-So. Seneca and Victor.CLASS C1 (9) Williamson 62 (8) East Rochester 53 In an 8 vs. 9 match-up featuring two Wayne County League teams, it was Williamson advancing in East Rochester by a score of 62-53. Matt Sperrs led Williamson (8-11) with 17 points while Phinehas Jacques scored 17 for ER which finished the season with a 9-10 mark.(4) Bloomfield 73 (13) Sodus 33 Bloomfield received little resistance from winless Sodus on Tuesday night as they easily advance to the next round of sectional competition with a 73-33 win in western Ontario County on Tuesday night. Sean Fitzgerald, who has been on fire the second half of the season, led the Bombers with 24 points. Sophmore Alex Flattery contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds. Sodus ends their season at 0-18 while Bloomfield improves to 14-5.(3) Addison 63 (14) South Seneca-Romulus 28 The season has mercifully ended for the 0-19 Romulus-South Seneca Warriors on Tuesday night at the hands of Addison. Alex Porter led Romulus with 10 points. Addison was led by 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists from Dalton Lewis and improves to 16-2.(6) Gananda 70 (11) Holley 36 The Gananda Blue Panthers had little trouble with Holley in the first round of sectional play on Tuesday night winning by a 34 point margin, 70-36. Kameron Gray led Gananda with 15 points and 15 rebounds.(5) Avon 56 (12) Pembroke 23 (7) Warsaw 57 (10) Byron-Bergen 45 CLASS C2 (8) Campbell-Savona 60 (9) Red Jacket 51 Red Jacket’s varsity basketball team couldn’t repeat the success of their football team this season and were eliminated from sectionals on Tuesday night at the hands of 8-seeded Campbell-Savona, 60-51. Red Jacket finished their 2012-13 campaign at 7-12.(6) Perry 82 (11) Red Creek 50 Perry’s Anthony Ricotta scored 29 points to lead his squad over the Red Creek Rams by the score of 82-50 on Tuesday night. Red Creek ends their season with a 3-16 mark.(7) Cuba-Rushford 56 (10) Canisteo-Greenwood 43 CLASS C3 (7) Oakfield-Alabama 62 (10) HAC 52 Harley-Allendale Columbia’s season mercifully came to and end on Tuesay night as Oakfield-Alabama advanced in Class C3 sectionals by a score of 62-52. HAC’s season ends at 2-17 despite 20 points and 9 rebounds from Eric Tolhurst and 13 points from Jamir Avery. Oakfield-Alabama was led by 28 points and 11 rebounds from Hunter Spiotta.(8) Bolivar-Richburg 61 (9) Pavilion 59 CLASS D2(9) Canaseraga 61 (8) Friendship 49 (4) C.G.
