Mostly quiet weather week ahead in the FLX

Most of the region should enjoy a fairly quiet and worry free weather week. The exception to this will be areas just outside the Finger Lakes, east of the lakes Erie and Ontario, where some hefty lake effect snows will be possible.Monday: We are starting out the week sandwiched between two weak systems- one to our southeast, the other to our northwest. Neither of these have much precipitation with them, and our are should remain mostly dry throughout the day. Any precipitation that does fall will be rain as temperatures climb into the upper 30s to near 40º.Tuesday & Wednesday: Lake effect snow will develop and primary stay east of the Great Lakes. A few flurries and squalls will probably make their way into the western Finger Lakes from the Lake Erie band. Snowfall over the Tug Hill will be particularly heavy, with a foot or more likely during this time period. High temperatures both days will be in the 20s, with morning lows Tuesday in the low/mid 20s and Wednesday in the teens.Thursday: There are some indications that the winds will briefly shift more northerly for Thursday. If this is the case, some of the snow from Lake Ontario may find its way into the region, especially if the lake effect snow off of Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay can connect with the Lake Ontario band. The northern and eastern Finger Lakes could see some accumulations if this happens. Temperatures will also be a bit cooler, with highs in the low and mid 20s.Friday: The lake snows should return to their Tuesday/Wednesday positions on Friday with temperatures a bit warm than Thursday with highs in the upper 20s.Saturday/Sunday: There is more uncertainty by next weekend. On Saturday, the lake effect could get a boost and strengthen some, making more progress further east into the Finger Lakes. A storm system may move towards the region on Sunday with some snow. For the latest local forecast and radar visit the Local Weather Center.Have a great week!- FingerLakes1.com Staff Meteorologist Drew Montreuil
