Big cool down begins in the Finger Lakes

It is a mild morning across the Finger Lakes thanks to southerly winds and plenty of cloud cover ahead of a cold front. The 6:00 am radar is showing a batch of showers mostly over western New York, but extending into the Finger Lakes as well. These are well ahead of the front, which is the blue line back in Michigan.Even with the clouds and showers this morning, there may be just enough fuel for a couple of thunderstorms this afternoon. Most short term, hi resolution models show at least some thunderstorm development in the region. Most of this takes place to the south and east, where the atmosphere will be slightly more favorable for thunder, but there is still a chance for a storm elsewhere.Any storm that does develop today is not expected to be strong or severe. Most areas will probably not hear thunder or see lightning today.Cooler air will come in behind the front tonight. In fact, rain will likely change to snow by Wednesday morning. Most areas will get little to no accumulation. Some hill tops may get half an inch or so. While temperatures will rebound Thursday and Friday, we are heading into a cooler pattern that will likely stick with into May.
