Two hurt in accident at Route 5 & 96 intrersection

The Waterloo Police Department reports that officers responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 5 at 4:11 pm Thursday May 8th, 2014. Carlos Pen-Melendez, age 53, of 12 Elm St in Seneca Falls was traveling east on State Route 5 and ran the red light at the intersection with State Route 96. Melendez struck another vehicle which was traveling west on State Route 5 and making a left turn onto State Route 96, operated by Amy Gjakova, age 27, of 5854 Rte 96, Romulus. Melendez then went off of the south side of State Route 5 onto the sidewalk, striking a parked vehicle and several road signs.Melendez was transported to Geneva General Hospital by North Seneca Ambulance for leg pain. Gjakova was transported to Geneva General Hospital by Finger Lakes Ambulance for head/neck/back pain.Melendez was issued citations for passing a red light and speed not reasonable, and is to appear in the Village of Waterloo Court on 6-4-14 at 0900 hours. The Waterloo Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department.
