No motorized boats on Canandaigua Lake

As a part of the declared state of emergency in Yates County – Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero has declared a special state of emergency supported by Yates Co Sheriff Ron Spike in the interest of public safety are ordering no motorized boating on the navigable waters of Canandaigua Lake until further notice EFFECTIVE 8 AM FRIDAY MAY 23, 2014.The amount of floating debris in the lake of dock parts, trees, stumps, hidden objects, and other obstructions is dangerous to boaters, and the many docks that remain under water being further damaged by boat wakes including soil erosion concerns. Thus a life and property safety issue is concerning.Sheriff’s Marine Patrols will be enforcing the ban. All public boat launching sites and marinas on Canandaigua Lake are being posted or notified. Any concerns please call the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office at 585-394-4560 or Yates County Sheriff’s Office 315-536-4438 as the navigable waters bound both counties.
