Medley of Tastes announces winners

The Smith Opera House’s 17th Annual Medley of Tastes, held on Monday, June 23, 2014, proudly announces the winners of the wine and food judging, a new program added to this year’s event. Attended by 200 people, the Medley of Tastes was held at the Scandling Center on the Hobart and William Smith Campus and sponsored by Phelps Sungas, Hancock Eastabrook, LLP, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges.Billsboro Winery won for Best Wine Taste. Best Spirit Taste was awarded to Finger Lakes Distillery. In the food categories Geneva On The Lake won Best Food Taste and Best Presentation, Torrey Park won for Best Appetizer, and Best Dessert was awarded to My Simple Sweets. Each winner was given a unique award created by Wizard of Clay especially for this event.The judges for this year’s contest are all involved in the Finger Lakes wine and culinary industry. Lorraine Hems is a lecturer at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Cheryl Pitti is Chef and owner of The Happy Chef Catering in Canandaigua. Stephanie Mira de Orduna is WSET certified and is the Wine Director of Microclimate, a wine bar located in Geneva.Other Geneva businesses contributed prizes for a raffle. Pedulla’s Liquor donated a case of wine, Stomping Grounds provided a framed vintage art print, and Earthly Possessions donated a Seneca Lake necklace. Music was provided by John Blume and Meredith Beckley on the patio.All proceeds from this event benefitted the Smith Opera House.
