Auburn police make arrest in Tuesday burglary

Sheriff David Gould reports the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Joshua J. Vail, age 36 of 8 Orchard Street in Auburn, on multiple felony charges stemming from a burglary arrest that occurred Tuesday morning.Detectives from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office pulled Vail over on Church St. near James St. in the City of Auburn at approximately 11:30 am Tuesday morning for the purpose of arresting him for an April 2014 burglary. Upon being told he was under arrest Vail became combative and attempted to forcibly take a Detective’s firearm from his holster. Vail was subdued using minimal force and transported to the Town of Sennett Court for arraignment.Vail was charged at that time with Burglary 3rd, (felony) Conspiracy 5th , Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th (switchblade knife found in vehicle) and Resisting Arrest (misdemeanors).At the arraignment Vail became combative and non-compliant again and exhibited signs that he may have been under the influence of an unknown substance. Vail was transported to Auburn Community Hospital via Rural Metro Ambulance. Vail was released from the hospital at approximately 6:30 pm last evening and brought to the Cayuga County Jail and held without bail.Vail was arraigned in Auburn City Court this morning on additional charges of Attempted Robbery 3rd and Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (loaded firearm) both felonies for the attempted taking of the Detectives’ service weapon. He continues to be held without bail.
