Common Core public forum in Seneca Falls tonight

Parent and Teacher Activists will hold a Common Core 101 Forum at the Community Center in Seneca Falls on Wednesday evening featuring speakers from across the state. Wednesday, October 22, 2014 (Seneca Falls, NY) ­­ Members of Parent to Parent plan to to travel to Seneca Falls to speak to the community about Common Core and it’s impact on education. The forum will be held at the Community Center, 35 Water St., Seneca Falls, NY at 6:30 pm.Collectively, our presenters have appeared in Common Core related segments on Channels 8, 10, 13 and WXXI­ TV in Rochester as well as Channels 2 and 4 in Buffalo. Our speakers have debated topics on WXXI radio, the Shannon Joy Show, Genesee Valley Parent Magazine and Glenn Beck’s nationwide theater program entitled “We Will Not Conform.”The primary purpose of this forum is to spread awareness of the common core initiative and all that it entails. Parent to Parent is against the Common Core Standards for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:­ The standards were not written by educators­ The standards are not developmentally appropriate for children­ The standards were not tested and are not proven­ States accepted the standards without input from voters, schools, teachers, parents ortaxpayers and without fully reading and understanding the standards­ The standards are detrimental to special needs students­ The standards are copyrighted and inflexible­ Teacher evaluations are tied to high stakes standardized testing­ The standards are costly to taxpayersParent to Parent along with grassroots activists, work together in support of ending Common Core in New York State by holding public events where they share information and spreadawareness.
