Code enforcement closes Microclimate in Geneva

Patrons of the popular downtown Geneva wine bar, Microclimate, were met with a notice on a locked door this week. The business, located at 38 Linden Street, is required to install an automatic door opener before they can reopen. Below is the text that appears on a printout posted on the front door…“It was agreed upon by all that the automatic door opener would be installed on or before April 13, 2015 unless a copy of court paperwork seeking relief from the NYS Codes Division Variance issued on 11/30/2012.”Below this printed notice is the following handwritten note from the owners…Friends & Patrons,We regret to inform you that microclimate will be closed TEMPORARILY until the issue before you is resolved. We have been required by CODE ENFORCEMENT to install an [automatic door opener].I, James Elkin, have taken issue given the lack of precedent and exorbitant cost. This may seen trivial, but I am standing on principal. Operating a small business if rife with challenges. This shouldn’t be one of them. Thank you for your understanding. We love you and appreciate your support.James
