Seneca Community Players hosts auditions in SF

Seneca Community Players will be holding auditions for George F. Walker’s lively dark comedy Dead Metaphor at 7:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday July 21 & July 22 at 115 Fall Street, lower level, Seneca Falls, or special appointment by contacting the director. The cast will consist of 3 men and 3 women.Coming home certainly isn’t all it’s cracked up to be for Dean who is not even savvy enough to know that no one will hire him if he’s honest about having been a sniper against the Taliban. He served his country well, but no one else understands that his high kill ratio is a mark of his efficiency. Unemployable, he can’t support his wife Jenny and his unborn child, so he has to move in with his aging parents. To make matters worse, Dean’s parents are coping with terrors of their own. His father Hank has an inoperable brain tumor that is wreaking havoc with his impulse control, memory and choice of words. It’s a lethal combination that leads to some hysterical bits of truth-telling regarding the similarities between politics and prostitution that shock Dean’s gentle-hearted mother Frannie. Not to mention the rest of the congregation at Sunday Mass. Hank’s profane bits of wisdom really heat up when Dean finally lands a job as an assistant to supremely smug right-wing honcho Helen, who has no beliefs, merely talking points calibrated to dupe a gullible public. She can’t quite decide if she despises her daughter more for being an environmental activist or for being a lesbian. And she considers her hapless husband Oliver a communist because he works in social services. Actors will read for the following characters: Dean Trusk, mid-to-late-twenties, Dean has returned home from the Army where he was a sniper against the Taliban. Oliver Denny, late-forties, Oliver is a job counselor and married to Helen a politician.Jenny Trusk, mid-twenties, Jenny is Dean’s pregnant desperate-for-money wife.Hank Trusk, late 60’s, Hank is Dean’s loose-cannon father married to Frannie.Frannie Trusk mid 60’s, Frannie is Dean’s supportive mother married to Hank.Helen Denny, late-forties, Right-wing politician married to Oliver. For more information, contact the director Becky Bly at wmp@rochester.rr.com or 315-651-5814.
