Aquacade to help commemorate Van Cleef Lake Celebration

As part of the Van Cleef Lake Centennial Celebration, more than 50 boats from around the region are expected to converge on Seneca Falls as part of a historic “Aquacade”. The Aquacade, more commonly known as a parade of boats, is scheduled for Sunday, August 9th at 2:00 pm and will be among the month-long celebration’s featured activities. “This family-friendly event is a great way to honor the legacy of both the Cayuga-Seneca Canal and Van Cleef Lake,” said Rick Newman, Destination Marketing Manager for the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber and event committee have worked very hard to model the aquacade after a similar water parade from the old ‘Aqua Festival’ – a popular festival that was sponsored by the Chamber back in the sixties,” Newman continued. The route that the aquacade will follow begins at Waterfalls Bridge in Seneca Falls and will travel West to East, through the Cayuga-Seneca Canal and into Van Cleef Lake – where the flotilla of boats will make a large loop around the perimeter of the historic, man-made lake. Among the parade’s most distinguished participants, the Van Cleef family will be riding in the lead boat. Boats of all ages and models will be showcased and participants are being urged to decorate their boats to advertise their business or organization. There are several public viewing locations available for the water spectacle including along lower Fall Street and the Ludovico Sculpture Trial. Viewing will also be allowed near the Trinity Episcopal Church. “The Van Cleef Lake Celebration is sure to be the event of the year,” proclaimed organizer Carol Ritter Wright. “We are delighted to have the aquacade as part of the celebration and look forward to showcasing the grand history of Van Cleef Lake to the rest of the world.”For more information on the Aquacade, contact the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce at 315-568-2906.
