Newark’s Wiktorski named to PGCBL All-League First Team

Shortstop Cody Wiktorski was lone Newark Pilot to be named to the 2015 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball (PGCBL) All-League Teams, announced Thursday afternoon by the league office.Wiktorski was a chosen to the 12-member All-League First Team after a record-breaking campaign at the plate this summer.A rising senior at St. John Fisher College, Wiktorski finished among the Newark leaders in nearly every offensive category. He led the squad with 53 hits and 18 doubles, and was tied for the lead with four triples and 28 RBIs. He was also second in batting average (.312) and runs scored (28), and fourth in stolen bases (14).The 2015 PGCBL All-Star slugged his way into team and league record books. Wiktorski’s 26 extra-base hits represent a new PGCBL single-season record while his 18 doubles and 91 total bases – both new team records – rank fourth and tied for sixth, respectively, in league history. In addition, Wiktorski’s four triples and four homers were each one shy of the Newark single-season mark.On defense, Wiktorski led all shortstops with 123 assists and was second with 64 putouts.The Penfield, N.Y., native began the summer with a solo home run in the season-opening win at Saugerties on June 3. On June 7, he compiled his first of two four-hit games, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored against Elmira. Wiktorski was crowned the PGCBL Player of the Week for the week of July 13-19. That week, he batted .414 and slugged a league-best .897. In a 13-3 win over the Elmira on July 14, Wiktorski drove in a season-high five runs. He plated the game-winning runs with a three-run double on July 17 against Glens Falls. He then went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a homer on July 18 in Elmira before hitting his second three-run shot in as many days on July 19 in Victor.Wiktorski is the 24th Newark Pilot in the organization’s five seasons to be honored by the PGCBL as an All-League player. He is the second St. John Fisher College player to earned All-League accolades for the Pilots, joining two-time All-PGCBL Second-Team selection Justin D’Amato (2011, 2013).PHOTO CREDIT: Shawn Stannard
