Seneca Co. United Way names Fall campaign chairs

Bob and Mary Ellen Kernan have been named as the United Way of Seneca County’s 2015-16 campaign chairs. As campaign chairs they oversee fundraising efforts by numerous volunteers in the area’s businesses and organizations. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Neighbor to Neighbor.” “We are proud to be involved with the United Way because of the impact it has on the citizens of Seneca County,” say the Kernan’s. “We know what a valuable resource the United Way is and the positive impact it has on our community. One in four Seneca County residents is impacted by its work.”The Kernan’s say they are excited as they look to the challenge of helping the United Way not only reach but exceed its goal of raising $370,000. “I’m looking forward to meeting and speaking with area business and community leaders to let them know just how important the United Way is. Not only does it help our neighbors by funding services they use, the United Way is involved in identifying critical issues, unmet needs, building collaborations, and constructing lasting solutions,” says Bob.Annually, the United Way of Seneca County raises funds that are then allocated through a community investment process to more than 20 nonprofit partner agencies that provide services to thousands of people. The focus of the United Way is on education, income, and health—the basic building blocks for ensuring a strong, viable community. “While both Kernan’s are retired, they remain very active in the community,” says Karen A. Macier, United Way executive director. “They are well-known in the community as volunteer leaders and are truly among our biggest champions.”The United Way of Seneca County, a non-profit organization, has been mobilizing community members to become more caring, making Seneca County a better place to live and work.
