New information in Mentz home invasion

Detectives with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office are continuing the investigation into a reported armed robbery that occurred on Haiti Rd. in the Town of Mentz on Thursday 10/22/15 at approximately 10:00 PM. The victims in that case reported that a masked intruder had come into their home armed with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded property. One of the occupants of the home was injured by the intruder during a struggle and was transported to Auburn Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. While furthering this investigation it was discovered that an unoccupied camper trailer on Haiti Rd, near the scene of the robbery, was forcibly entered and property was stolen from within. Numerous guns that had been locked in the camper were stolen and are currently missing. It is believed that these two incidents are related. Witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck fleeing Haiti Rd. at the time of the robbery report. They described it as an older dark colored Chevy or GMC extended cab pickup truck with larger tires and a loud exhaust. Anyone with information regarding the above vehicle description, or these incidents, is asked to call Detective Steve Smith at 315-253-4869.
