Lago construction enters next phase in Tyre

Wilmorite Chairman Thomas C. Wilmot, Sr., and M. Brent Stevens, Managing Member of Peninsula Pacific – Two Lago Resort & Casino partners – today announced that the foundation work on constructing Lago will begin this week, creating more than 50 union jobs in Tyre, Seneca County.The lead contractor will be Manning Squires Hennig Co., Inc., based in Batavia, NY. EJ Construction Group, Inc. from Liverpool, NY, an MBE (minority business enterprise) firm will be subcontracted for steel reinforcement.“Starting to pour foundations is the next step forward in constructing Lago Resort & Casino. We could not be more pleased that two outstanding upstate contractors – both employing Upstate union workers who badly need the jobs, and one an MBE firm – are taking the lead on this phase of the work,” Wilmot said.“Ultimately, construction of Lago will result in 1,800 jobs – not to mention 1,800 permanent jobs once operations begin – and the 50 jobs created by the foundation work will provide a wonderful early Christmas present to 50 union workers and their families,” Stevens said.Michael Davis, President of the Finger Lakes Building & Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO, which represents 19 local unions with more than 6,000 members, said: “Thank you, Lago. While I certainly look forward to the day coming soon when there will be hundreds and hundreds of my members working their butts off to build a phenomenal new facility that will be a gateway to the entire region, this is a great start.”“Lago is all about jobs, tourism, economic development, and helping to rebuild the economy of the Finger Lakes region,” Wilmot said. “We were honored to be recommended for a casino license by the independent Gaming Facility Location Board. We are committed to living up to its high expectations for Lago, as well as the expectations of the independent New York State Gaming Commission, as it finalizes the process for awarding casino licenses.”
