Canandaigua woman dead after Route 96 crash

A Canandaigua woman was killed in crash at a busy intersection on Route 96 in Farmington late Tuesday morning.According to State Police, 41-year-old Tara M. Gaudette of Canandaigua was driving north in her car on County Road 8 at about 11:27 AM when she either slowed or stopped at the intersection stop sign at the corner of County Road 8 and Route 96. Then, she drove directly into the path of an eastbound, full size pick-up truck towing a horse trailer.Gaudette was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the pick up truck has been identified as 66-year-old Kenneth Smith of Canandaigua. Smith was taken to FF Thompson Hospital for minor injuries. The horse trailer was not carrying any horses at the time of the crash.Surveillance video from Farmington Services, a nearby business, shows the moments leading up to the crash.In the video, the victim’s car is seen traveling north on County Road 8. The victim’s car first slows down behind another car that turns left. The victim’s car then slows down again at the stop sign at Route 96. A few seconds later, a pickup truck towing an empty horse trailer is seen driving east on Route 96. The footage does not capture the crash itself.The Ontario County Sheriff’s Department and the Farmington Fire Department assisted Troopers at the scene. The accident is still under investigation and State Police continue to track down potential witnesses.
