Woman arrested after falsely reporting child abuse

A Fairport woman is facing a number of charges for falsely reporting multiple incidents to authorities.The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that on January 12th Katherine Taft, 41, of Fairport, reported that her son stated “help me” several times to her over the phone. On February 5th she called the Sheriff’s Office and reported that her son was being beaten by his father while deputies were present at the residence following up on the January 12th report. Taft was asked to respond to the Sheriff’s Office for interview and she instead showed up at the father’s residence in violation of a stay away order of protection against her, while Deputies were still at the father’s residence.She was arrested for two counts of falsely reporting an incident in the 3rd degree and one count of criminal contempt in the 2nd degree. Taft was also arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the 2nd degree as she drove to the Canandaigua location with a suspended license. Taft was taken into custody and committed to the Ontario County Jail on pre-arraignment detention. She will answer the charges at a later date.
