Sectionals: Newark, Pal-Mac, Mynderse advance

Friday night was a great one if you are a fan of the top teams in the Finger Lakes East and Wayne County boys basketball leagues. Not so much for everyone else in the Wayne-Finger Lakes, especially schools from the FL West. The quarterfinal round of the Section V basketball tournament played our Friday evening in gyms across the region.Pal-Mac recorded an impressive win over Leadership Academy in Class B1 while Newark needed a bucket from Ben Cowles with just seconds remaining to edge Midlakes. Penn Yan held the lead against Hornell for much of the game before Jake Dunn’s late 3-pointer gave Hornell the win. Pal-Mac will face Livonia on Wednesday in Victor as part of a B1 double-header that will include Newark vs. Hornell. FL1 Sports will present the double-header live on FingerLakes1.TV.In Class B2, top seed North-Rose Wolcott rolled to an easy win, Marcus Whitman fell in Attica, and Mynderse Academy defended their home court against RCMCS in a game streamed live on FL1 Sports…(Full video from this game will be re-streamed live on FingerLakes1.TV on Saturday afternoon)In C1, East Rochester and Clyde-Savannah both advanced to set up an All-Wayne County semifinal on Monday night between the two rivals who split in their regular season meetings. Red Creek and Finger Lakes West co-champions Bloomfield both saw their seasons come to an end on Friday night.In C2, Dundee let a 4th quarter lead slip away in a loss to Campbell-Savona while 11 seed Lyons lost by 10 at Perry.In D1, the lone Finger Lakes West team remaining is Naples who handled Mount Morris on their home court to advance to the semifinals on Monday night where they’ll face top seed York. In girls action involving W-FL teams, the Romulus Lady Warriors and Geneva Panthers advanced with wins while the Wayne Eagles fell to Sutherland.
