Power outage prompts Water Conservation Notice in Seneca Falls

Residents who live in Seneca Falls are being directed to conserve water as much as possible until further notice. Those who live on the north side of the railroad tracks in town are being asked to conserve water due to a power outage at the Auburn Road Water Tower.A statement was released by Seneca Falls reading:Residents served by the Town of Seneca Falls Water District, who live north of the Railroad tracks in Seneca Falls are requested by the Seneca Falls Water Department to conserve water until further notice, due to a power outage at the Auburn Road Water Tower. To avoid an emergency situation, all residents in this area served by the Seneca Falls Water District, are asked to do their part to conserve water. Some guidelines issued by Seneca Falls during this period of conservation include:- Use you dishwasher and washing machine only for full loads.- If you wash your dishes by hand, do not leave the water running for rinsing.- Keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator to keep it cool instead of running the water.- Use of disposable/single service dinnerware, cups and utensils will minimize dishes that need to be washed.- Check faucets and pipes for leaks. Leaks waste water 24 hours a day, seven days a week and often can be repaired with only an inexpensive washer.- Check you toilets for leaks. To test for leaks, add a small amount of food coloring to the toilet tank. If, without flushing, the color begins to appear in the bowl, you have a leak that should be repaired immediately.- Take shorter showers. Long showers can waste five to ten gallons every extra minute.- Do not leave water running while brushing your teeth.- Do not wash your car.The statement closed: “We need your help. If voluntary conservation measures are unsuccessful, mandatory water conservation may be enforced. Questions may be directed to Seneca Falls Water Department, Anne Havelin at 315-568-6211.”FingerLakes1.com will update this story as more information becomes available.
