Two SF Town Board members resign

This week the Seneca Falls Town Board saw permanent changes come its way. In a surprising turn of events — two members of the Seneca Falls Town Board resigned in a special session on Friday. Chad Sanderson and James Ricci, both resigned in protest — citing that they would submit formal letters of resignation this week. The item they were protesting was the Town Board’s move to issue a stop work order to Seneca Meadows Landfill for the rail siding, which was built near State Route 414.The vote went 3-0 after the pair resigned, protesting the legal ramifications of a stop work order. The Planning Board had said that a stop work order should be issued because the resource park not fitting into the original site plan, which was obtained in 2007.Town Attorney Patrick Morrell advised against issuing a stop work order, and pointed out that he saw “no upside to the stop work order.” Seneca Falls Code Enforcement Officer Dean Zettlemoyer also recommended that no stop work order be issued under these circumstances. Zettlemoyer, Morrell, Sanderson, and Ricci were all opposed to the work order for varying reasons. Ricci said before the vote took place, “I’m not going to put myself out there like this,” and left the meeting. Now Seneca Falls Town Supervisor Greg Lazzaro will be faced with finding replacements for the two vacated seats. The resignations, and 3-0 vote to issue a stop work order comes just days before a protest is planned in Seneca Falls, which will end with protesters dumping garbage in front of New York State Sen. Michael Nozzolio’s office in Seneca Falls. The protest was announced at last Tuesday’s board meeting, which included over 20 speakers — speaking out against the landfill expansion. Protesters will march near the railroad track in Seneca Falls — and conclude at Nozzolio’s office this upcoming Saturday morning.Stay tuned for more information as this story continues to develop.
