Kohl’s in Auburn will not close, says company

Tonight, local shoppers can breathe a sigh of relief.Last month, reports circulated that Kohl’s was considering shutting down their Auburn location. While the company had not announced any specific closures at the time, some presumed that the Auburn location might make the list of the 18 stores to close. However, the company announced on Wednesday that no plans existed to close the Auburn location. In fact, no locations in New York at all were listed to be a part of this closure — which would officially close all listed stores as of June 19th. Kohl’s statement read in part:“Kohl’s also continues to explore ways to enhance shareholder value through the optimization of its existing store portfolio. In 2016, Kohl’s will close 18 underperforming stores representing less than one percent of total sales. To reach this decision, Kohl’s conducted a comprehensive review of all of the markets across the country.”They went on to point out that each Kohl’s store employs approximately 80-100 employees, on average. The entire statement and press release, including the list of closing stores can be viewed here.
