Cayuga Co. Sheriff warns of IRS phone scams

Sheriff David Gould reminds the public to exercise caution as there has been an increase recently in phone scams from ‘spoofed’ phone numbers which appear to be from local or recognizable phone numbers but are actually from unknown or overseas perpetrators. The current most common scam claims to be from the IRS and demands a payment with the threat of criminal action. The callers are often pushy or aggressive, sometimes identifying themselves as law enforcement. Never provide any personal information. Check the IRS website if you have any questions or would like to utilize their link to make a report.
