NWS upgrades FLX to Winter Storm Warning

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Weather Advisories for the Western Finger Lakes to a Winter Storm Warning. The Winter Storm Warning begins at 5 pm and ends Monday at 2 pm. The warned area includes: Ontario, Monroe, Livingston, and the rest of the Western Finger Lakes. The National Weather Service says that between 6 and 9 inches of snow should be expected as this fast moving system brings steady, and at times, heavy snow to the entire region. Visibility will be as low as a quarter of a mile at times during the heaviest snowfall during the overnight hours — making the morning commute a challenge. In addition, the wet snow could cause minor power outages, and take down small limbs — as trees have begun gaining vegetation. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the rest of the Finger Lakes, as that system is expected to delivery moderate snow through Monday morning. The Winter Weather Advisory begins at 8 pm and ends Monday at 2 pm. The advised area includes: Cayuga, Cortland, Onondaga, Tompkins, Schuyler, Seneca, Yates, and Wayne counties as well. Additional snowfall, on top of the snow that has already fallen over the weekend will range between 3 and 6 inches in the advised area, which will mean slippery roads, and potentially difficult travel. The snow will overspread the entire region through the early evening hours, with heavy snow developing during the overnight hours. By late Monday morning — the snow will begin tapering off. Winds will also subside as the evening progresses, with gusts backing off to around 20 mph. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when traveling in an advised or warned area. The National Weather Service says to be prepared for slippery roads, limited visibility, and quickly changing conditions.Local Weather Resources:Western FLXEastern FLXThruway ConditionsReports on Social Media
