Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests connected to a residential burglary of an occupied home that occurred in the Village of Port Byron. At approximately 4:00 am on Thursday the Cayuga County 911 Center received a report of a burglary that had just occurred at an occupied residence on Canal Street in the village. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office responded and found that an elderly male’s locked home had been forcibly entered as he slept and that cash and collectible coins were stolen. It appeared that the victim did not wake up during the break in but discovered it soon after. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office did assist at the scene with a K-9 tracking dog that led Deputies and Detectives from the victim’s home to 101 Rochester Street, Port Byron. An interview with the occupants of that home led to the arrest of two subjects and the recovery of the stolen property. Arrested were: Travis J. Burdick, 19, and Brett T. Roeder, 19, both of Port Byron.During the investigation it was discovered that both subjects had burglarized another home in an unrelated case. They were both charged with one count each of Burglary in the second degree (felony), Burglary in the third degree (felony), Grand larceny in the third degree (felony), and petit larceny (misdemeanor). They were arraigned in the Town of Brutus Court and remanded to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
