It is finally spring in the Finger Lakes and it’s time to eat fresh and buy local at the Seneca Falls Farmers Market. The market will start its’ ninth season on Wednesday, June 8th canal side in People’s Park in Seneca Falls from 9AM to 1:30PM. With nineteen vendors signed on to participate you are sure to find something to take home. Lunch by The Gould Hotel and Café XIX will be served in the park for you to enjoy while relaxing at the picnic tables.If you can’t make it the first week, come out any Wednesday until mid-October and buy locally (New York State) grown fruits and vegetables. In addition look for homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, honey, eggs, fresh meats, plants, lavender sachets, hand crafted jewelry & ceramics, and cut flowers. We have many new vendors, so come by and visit your old favorites and check out the new sellers. The market will again be promoting locally grown and produced items. All of our produce vendors will be accepting Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons, available through the WIC Program and Office for the Aging for families and seniors 60 and over who meet the criteria. Also available will be the ability for food stamp participants to utilize their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to purchase qualifying items at the market. One of the produce vendors will be accepting checks from the WIC Vegetable and Fruit Program.Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) will be at the market every week with an information table and new recipes to help you use the fresh, local produce you purchase at the market. The table will be staffed by an Extension staff member or volunteer. Healthy Pride of New York food demonstrations, with free samples and recipes, will be presented and preserving and canning information will also be available. Gardening questions will be answered by volunteer Master Gardeners.The market is a joint effort of Seneca County CCE and the Seneca Falls Development Corporation.
