Clifton Springs home damaged in overnight blaze

A Clifton Springs fire is still under investigation as eight fire companies responded to 2071 Wheat Road early Tuesday morning.The property on Wheat Road was owned by Scott Mattoon, 46, of Clifton Springs, which was called in around 12:26 am on Tuesday. When the call came in it was reported as a working structure fire. Phelps, Seneca Castle, Port Gibson, Shortsville, Manchester, Oaks Corners, Stanley and Hopewell Fire Departments all responded to the blaze. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, all three individuals who were inside the house at the time of the fire — were able to exit before any had sustained injuries. This was largely due to their being functional fire alarms inside the home.While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Ontario County officials say they will update this incident as information becomes available.

Reports from the area suggested that the home had partially caved in due to the fire, which was heaviest in the rear of the home where a connected garage was located.FingerLakes1.com will have more on this story as it develops, and as more information is provided by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
