Late Monday night the Penn Yan Police Department arrested Cody M. Ledgerwood, age 20 of Gorham, and his mother Sherri A. Chambers, age 45 of Gorham, after a traffic stop on Liberty Street in the Village.Officers stopped the vehicle after observing a traffic infraction for illegal stickers on the vehicle window. A subsequent check of Ledgerwood’s operating privelages showed revoked and suspended by NYS DMV for multiple violations. Officers attempted to take Ledgerwood into custody; however, he refused to comply with Police orders to exit the vehicle and resisted. Ledgerwood was then subdued with a Taser deployment and Officers extracted him from the vehicle, where he continued to physically resist arrest and fought with Officers.During the incident Chambers was also subdued by Taser as she interfered with Ledgerwood’s arrest and physically fought with Officers. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Penn Yan Police Department for processing. Ledgerwood was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation in the 3rd, and unauthorized sticker in rear window. Chambers was charged with obstruction of governmental administration in the 2nd, resisting arrest, and facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation in the 3rd.Both were arraigned in the Penn Yan Village Court and committed to the Yates County Jail. Ledgerwood was remanded in lieu of $1,000 cash/$500 bond. Chambers was remanded in lieu of $250 cash/$500 bond. Both are to reappear in the Penn Yan Village Court at a later date to answer to the charges.After requesting additional backup during the incident, Penn Yan Officers were assisted by units from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.
