Boater charged with DWI in Canandaigua

On Monday, a Canandaigua man was charged with operating a pontoon boat in the City Pier channel in Canandaigua under the influence of alcohol. The charges stemmed from an incident, which occurred around 8:30 pm when Nicholas R. King, 24, of Canandaigua was observed operating a pontoon boat with an excessive number of passengers on board. Upon further investigation, deputies learned that King was under the influence of alcohol. He was subsequently arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated. He was issued appearance tickets for violation of the New York State Navigation Law for having an insufficient number of personal floatation devices on board. He was also cited for boating while intoxicated — and having a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of .08. He was released and will appear at a later date to answer the charges.
