The Seneca Falls Canal Fest which was held over this past weekend of July 8th thru the 10th was an overwhelming success. Thousands of people visited both sides of the Seneca-Cayuga Canal as well as the downtown businesses in Seneca Falls. Over 30 different watercraft visited the Seneca Falls Canal Harbor, from kayaks to a 45 foot Cigarette Style Speed Boat. The Seneca Falls Business Association (SFBA) served as the organizer of the festivities and provided food & entertainment throughout the three day festival. From live music with over 30 bands to a petting zoo with a camel! On Saturday the Canal Fest brought back the Aquacade from the 1960’s with the revitalized Aquacade Watercraft Parade. With decorated and non-decorated watercraft alike, the crowd lined both sides of the canal to view this unique parade. Saturday night was topped off with a brilliant display of fireworks which were launched from Van Cleef Lake. Completing the Canal Fest on Sunday was the dropping of hundreds of ducks into the water to start the 1st Annual Harry Liddell Duck Race. With 20 awards of cash and prizes at stake, the crowd counted out load for the initial splashdown and rooted for their ducks as they traveled through the Canal Harbor to the finish line. The Canal Fest committee, Ann Sandroni, Becky Bly, Chris Podzuweit, and Dennis Scannell, would like to thank all of the sponsors, volunteers, and all who visited for making this year’s Canal Fest so successful.
