It was a sizzling afternoon at Big Oak in Geneva on Sunday, as the First Annual Men’s Ryder Cup match was held between Silver Creek Golf Club and host Big Oak Golf Course. While it was the first edition of the Men’s Ryder Cup between Silver Creek and Big Oak – it was the third edition for the women. The 27-hole match featured three formats, as teams and players competed to win 9-hole matches. The first format golfers sunk their teeth into Sunday was a traditional scramble. That was followed by a shamble. The final format was a traditional singles match play, which was where the Silver Creek team capitalized.After the first two sets of matches, Silver Creek and Big Oak were tied at 6-6.When players set out for their singles matches – it was a turning point for Silver Creek, where the team continued to grind the way they did the entire afternoon. This time the results were dramatically in favor of the team from Waterloo.
Silver Creek outscored Big Oak by a margin of 8-4 in the singles match play session – giving Silver Creek a 14-10 victory over Big Oak.
The event on Sunday was a war of attrition. Players were combatting heat, humidity, and a lack of air movement after Saturday’s wind became a distant memory.
The ladies held their Third Annual Ryder Cup event, with the Big Oak team winning out.
Next year the men will work to defend their title, as the women look to recapture the gold in the 2017 Ryder Cup.
