On July 16 the Penn Yan Police Department arrested Lauren R Enos, age 25 of Penn Yan, after a traffic stop on Liberty Street.
At approximately 2:30 am , an Officer on patrol observed a vehicle northbound on Liberty Street traveling at 42 mph in a 30 mph zone. The Officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and activated the Patrol Vehicle’s emergency lights. The suspect’s vehicle then abruptly turned into a driveway on Liberty Street and drove behind a residence. The occupants then fled the vehicle in an effort to avoid Police.
Police determined the vehicle was owned by Enos and searched the immediate area. A short time later Enos did return to the vehicle and spoke to Officers. An investigation revealed that Enos was the passenger in the vehicle and it had been operated by Antoin W Thomas, age 35 of Hempstead. Thomas, who currently has an active bench warrant from the Penn Yan Village Court for failure to pay fines on prior criminal convictions, and also multiple suspensions of his privilege to operate a motor vehicle in NYS, fled the area. Further investigation revealed that Thomas was planning to return to the NYC/Long Island area later that morning. Police interviewed multiple persons and discovered that Thomas had been transported to Geneva, where he was unable to be located.
Enos was charged with second degree obstruction of governmental administration, a class A misdemeanor. She was processed at the Penn Yan Police Department and released on an appearance ticket to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
An arrest warrant was issued by Penn Yan Village Court for Antoin Thomas for pending charges. Thomas is a former resident of Penn Yan and is believed to make occasional visits to the area. Anyone with information of his whereabouts should contact the Penn Yan Police Department at 315-536-4426.
