Rushville man airlifted to Strong Memorial after truck flips, strikes utility pole in Gorham

A Rushville man suffered extensive injuries during a one-car crash on County Road 1 in the Town of Gorham on Saturday. The accident occurred around 5:39 am and deputies say happened after the driver, Chad J. Lightfoote, 23, of Rushville fell asleep behind the wheel.

Authorities say Lightfoote’s 2013 Ford F-150 was traveling on County Road 1 south of Hall Road when he appeared to fall asleep, crossing the centerline, striking a guardrail – causing his vehicle to go airborne. Lightfoote’s truck then flipped before slamming into a utility pole.

Mercy Flight was called to the scene and transported Lightfoote to Strong Memorial Hospital after suffering extensive chest injuries. Deputies say that he is currently in stable condition. The roadway was closed for several hours, as crews from NYSEG worked to replace the utility pole, which was destroyed in the accident.

Lightfoote was issued an appearance ticket for failing to keep right, which he will answer at a later date in Gorham Town Court.
