Welfare fraud in Wayne County, more than $1,800 in benefits wrongly received

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Welfare Fraud Unit reports the arrest of an Oswego resident after an investigation found unreported income.

Investigators say Danae Eggers, 24, of Oswego was charged with welfare fraud in the fourth degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.

Investigators also reported that the investigation was initiated by the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Eggers allegedly failed to report her income at the time of recertification for SNAP benefits. It is required by law and the program that all individuals applying for SNAP benefits report all income.

As result, Eggers is accused of receiving $1,868 worth of SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to. A court date has not yet been set in Lyons Town Court for Eggers to answer the charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
