One seriously injured in Ithaca accident

A serious accident in Ithaca left two hospitalized with minor and serious injuries. Lt. Jacob Young, of the Ithaca Police Department says that a three car crash on Elmira Road at Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway.

Young says on Thursday afternoon around 1:24 pm officers were called to the scene of an accident on Elmira Road with serious injuries. It was determined that a red pickup truck was traveling northbound and made a left hand turn to enter onto Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway when a gray sedan struck the vehicle.

The sedan was traveling southbound on Elmira Road, and caused the pickup truck to collide with a second pickup truck. The driver of the second pickup truck was not injured.

The driver of the first pickup truck suffered minor injuries. The driver of the sedan suffered extensive injuries, and serious injuries to the head. Bangs Ambulance was nearby at the time of the accident and quickly responded.

The driver of the sedan was transported to an area trauma center to treat the injuries. Elmira Road was reduced to one lane for more than an hour-and-a-half.

The driver of the first pickup truck was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way. the operated of the sedan was ticketed for failing to wear a seat belt. Witnesses of the accident are urged to contact the Ithaca Police Department with information.
