Penn Yan Police break up Pokemon Go dispute with arrest

On July 28 the Penn Yan Police Department arrested Aaron D. Tears, age 25 of Penn Yan, after investigating an altercation that occurred at the Penn Yan Library involving two males playing Pokemon Go.

Police were advised that Tears and another male were engaged in a battle on their cell phones and during the game, Tears accused the other male of cheating. Tears ultimately slapped the phone out of the victim’s hand causing it to fall and strike the pavement. As a result, the screen on the phone shattered causing damage in excess of $250.

Tears was charged with criminal mischief and released on an appearance ticket to appear in Village Court at a later date.
