A boating accident at Sheldrake Point resulted in one man being arrested for boating while intoxicated, according to deputies in Seneca County.

Around 12:09 am on August 21, deputies arrested Michael A. Agnellino of Endicott for boating while intoxicated after receiving reports of a boating accident at Sheldrake Point in the Town of Ovid.

The subsequent investigation revealed that Agnellino was operating his 1995 Chris Craft boat southbound on Cayuga lake when he struck the lighted fixed metal and concrete buoy located at Sheldrake Point. The boat sustained heavy damage and was towed to shore. Agnellino was transported by South Seneca Ambulance to Cayuga Medical Center for minor injuries.

Agnellino was charged with boating while intoxicated with a .08% blood-alcohol content or higher, boating while intoxicated, and reckless operation of a vessel.

He will appear in Ovid Town Court to answer the charges on October 4, 2016. Deputies were assisted by New York State Park Police, Trumansburg Police Department, South Seneca Ambulance and Romulus Fire Department and Interlaken Fire Department.
